Brief history of the military station

The Station at Bervie Brow first opened in 1953 as RAF Inverbervie, a Royal Air Force technical site for radar, part of the UK's early-warning system against the threat of atomic attack.

In the early 1960s, the facility was remodelled by the US Naval Security Group for signals intelligence and communications, annexed to RAF Edzell.

In the final decade of the Cold War, the Station served as the hidden post-strike Armed Forces Headquarters (AFHQ) for Scotland.
